We are a group of parishioners who help parents to come to a deeper understanding of what they are undertaking in asking to have their child baptised. We organise a meeting with the parents and facilitate a general information meeting each month. On the day itself, we help to organise and participate in the liturgy.
Just like any home, our parish needs good housekeeping. For this very purpose, the parish has two groups of volunteers who keep the church clean and tidy - God’s housekeepers! Each group meets once per week (Monday or Friday mornings) in the church. The cleaning is followed by a cup of tea and a chat. New members are always welcome.
This group organises the collection of the baskets at the celebration of the Eucharist on Saturday evenings, Sundays and Holy Days.
We prepare church flowers during all the liturgical seasons. We have five teams, with each team in turn working on a monthly rota. The group is also available for weddings. If you are interested in flower arranging, please get involved.
The Church Shop offers a range of religious goods from Rosaries to religious books and Mass Cards. It is staffed by volunteers from the Parish. It is open every morning after the 10.00 a.m. Mass and on Sunday from 11.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. Why not pay a visit?
An essential element in the life of any community is meeting each other and extending a welcome to new members joining the community. We visit areas across the parish providing face-to-face contact. New members are always welcome.
‘Do This in Memory of Me’ is a parish based programme to help children prepare to receive their First Holy Communion. It is led by volunteers from the parish, many of them parents. It takes place over a period of weeks and helps the children come to a fuller understanding of what they are about to receive from God.
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist play an important part in the liturgical celebrations of the parish. We also serve the sick and housebound members of our parish by bringing the Blessed Sacrament to homes. Ministers serve every second Sunday and meet 4/5 times a year in the Iona Pastoral Centre. Education and training in the role of the ministry are provided.
The Parish Finance Committee is a dedicated team of volunteers which works closely with our Parish Priest to manage our parish finances.

This group by its participation in the Funeral Rites endeavours to support the families and parish community by their presence.
We are a group of volunteers who oversee the editorial policy and production of the Knocklyon News. The Knocklyon News offers an opportunity to all the various groups within the wider community of Knocklyon to report on their activities. The Knocklyon News is published approximately six times a year and submissions are welcome from parishioners.
This group organises many of the liturgical functions during the year. It also compiles, for example, a programme of readings and prayers for the Pre-Natal Blessings, Mass for the World Day of the Sick in February, Reconciliation Services, Memorial Services for deceased members of the parish and other relevant ceremonies. The Ministers of the Word play an essential part in the parish liturgies by proclaiming the Word of God. The Ministers of the Word meet 4/5 times a year when they have an opportunity to reflect on the upcoming readings. Education and training on the role of this Ministry are provided.
The Parish Pastoral Forum acts in a consultative capacity alongside the Pastoral Council. It consists of members of the Carmelite Community and parishioners representing a cross-section of the people of the parish. The purpose of this group is to highlight and discuss what is going on in the parish, the concerns and needs of the community and ideas on how to improve the life of the parish. It meets 3/4 times a year and is open to all parishioners.
The Parish Pastoral Council is nominated and selected from the parish community. This is made up of the Parish Priest, the Carmelites working in the parish and seven members nominated and selected from the parish community. They assist the Parish Priest in making and implementing decisions in consultation with the Parish Forum. The Parish Pastoral Council meets once a month except during the summer holidays.

We are a group of parishioners responsible for the organisation of various social events in the parish. Amongst these events are the very successful Annual Christmas Fair and Parish Week.
The St. Vincent de Paul Society is a voluntary organisation working with people in need. The activities include working for social justice, maintaining hostels and refuges, social housing projects, breakfast clubs and visiting homes, hospitals and prisons. The local conference in Knocklyon meets each week in the Iona Centre. New volunteers are always needed.
The weekly envelope collection helps to develop and maintain the parish structures. The collection is funded by the families of the parish, either by weekly or monthly envelope donations or standing orders. It pays for the day-to-day expenses of the parish, the local contribution to the parochial schools and the capital costs and maintenance of parish properties. All monies stay within the parish. This group is comprised of supervisors and collectors. Individual collections take approximately 20 - 30 minutes each week. New members are always welcome. Come and join us.
‘You Shall Be My Witness’ is a parish based programme to help children prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. It is led by volunteers from the parish, many of them parents. It takes place over a period of weeks and addresses the themes of belonging, believing, being, becoming and beginning again. Each session involves two leaders working with up to ten Confirmation candidates. The course is also available As Gaeilge for students of the local Gaelscoil.
