LENT – a call in the Silence!
By Debbie Moore-Borland
How difficult is it for me to answer that question – what am I looking for; in my life, in my relationships, in my work, in my family, in my country, in my world?
We can appear to be busy and indeed fulfilled, and yet each one of us can know what it’s like to be lonely and even lost.
During this Lent, a time that is often misunderstood and presented as a time of negativity, we are inviting you to step back a little from the hustle and bustle and instead of ‘giving up’, perhaps you might give yourself permission to ‘indulge’ in seeking an answer to that question: “What am I looking for?”
From Sunday evening 5th March until Friday 10th March you are invited to a week of discovery; a week of reflection and prayer; a week of guided prayer.
We will gather on Sunday evening at 7 pm in the lona Pastoral Centre and there will be a short introduction to how the week will unfold for us. The participants will be introduced to their trained spiritual guides.
Each participant will need to set aside a short time for prayer and reflection during the day. There will be a daily meeting with the spiritual guide, (morning/afternoon/evening) who is ther to listen and help us to see and hear how God is working in our daily lives. The amount of time for prayer each day will depend on the individual. This can be discussed with the spiritual guide.
There’s no right or wrong way to pray – pray as you can, not as you can’t – simply be yourself. We come as we are, not as we would like to be. Participants in the week will be given guidance in various ways of prayer, particularly in imaginative contemplation of the Scriptures (an lgnatian method).
Places are limited and early booking is advisable, closing date is Sunday 19th February. For further information contact the Director or Debbie at the Iona Pastoral Centre.
